About the brush:

Lip brushes tend to be small, slightly tapered and rounded brushes with a little more stiffness than most eye shadow brushes. They are a means to blend lip liner into and apply lip color onto the lips. They provide more accuracy than applying lipstick straight from the tube. they also extent the life of your lipstick be reaching the lipstick at the base of your tube once you have worn it down flat. It is also exquisite for blending one color into another and applying gloss.

How to use:

After applying lip liner, use the tip of the lip brush to soften the inner edge of the lip liner so that the lip color, when applied, blends seamlessly into the liner and onto the lip. Then brush your lip brush over the color you intend to put on your lips and apply the brush to the lips from the center of the lips outward. If you like to layer colors, clean the brush quickly with a tissue and blend the second color over the first. When applying gloss, accentuate the center of the mouth and apply in vertical strokes to enhance the shine factor. Some lip brushes are retractable. With this brush you can fill the hairs with your favorite color and have a recharge ready to go without having to take out your lipstick as well! Very handy. Your brush needs to be firm enough to distribute the product effectively and soft enough to not irritate the surface of your skin. The amount of resistance desired varies from person to person.

How to choose:

Feel the amount of softness/stiffness in the palm of your hand. If you like what you feel, try it on your eyes. If the brush passes the feel test, then apply product with the brush for the ultimate application test. If it passes all of your criteria, mark it down as a possible future brush for you. Be discerning. Don,t buy the first brush you like. Narrow it down to your three top choices then pick from those. It is better to spend more time picking out brushes because it will be touching your face every time you put on makeup and it will be with you for at least ten years. One other test I do on the brush I am about to purchase is to gently pull on the hairs to see how that particular brush I am purchasing is constructed. If you get a handful of hair, ask to see another brush! Remember to always check what the return policy is on all purchases. Some brushes seem great and a month later they evolve into a shedding monster. Expect to lose a few hairs with any brush, however if the amount of hair loss increases instead of decreases, exchange or return it.
