About the brush:
A face contour brush is designed to enhance, and reshape if neccesary, the prominent structure of your face. You will find angled as well as flat contour face brushes on the market. Among the practical applications of the contour face brushes are ; heightening the appearance of the cheekbone, softening a strong jaw or forehead line; diminish the roundness of a full face, shorten a long face; and lengthen a short one. The desired effect with contouring is to create the appearance of a shadow on the areas of your face you want to soften. such as full cheeks, strong jawline or a wide forehead.
How to use:
It is best to press the angled edge of the brush into your product and then apply. I like using a blush or powder that is a medium dark neutral color. Also, to avoid a heavy application, shake off the excess product and/or tap it into your transluscent powder before applying to dilute the pigment of the blush/powder. To enhance the cheekbone, this brush is best used along the underside (not the hollow) of the cheekbone. It is wise to soften the appearance of the border of a contour application with your transluscent powder so that the contour application does not appear too harsh Your brush needs to be firm enough to distribute the product effectively and soft enough to not irritate the surface of your skin. The amount of resistance desired varies from person to person.
How to choose:
Feel the amount of stiffness in the palm of your hand. If you like what you feel, try it on your face. If the brush passes the feel test, then apply product with the brush for the ultimate application test. If it passes all of your criteria, mark it down as a possible future brush for you. Be discerning. Don,t buy the first brush you like. Narrow it down to your three top choices then pick from those. It is better to spend more time picking out brushes because it will be touching your face every time you put on makeup and it will be with you for at least ten years. One other test I do on the brush I am about to purchase is to gently pull on the hairs to see how that particular brush I am purchasing is constructed. If you get a handful of hair, ask to see another brush! Remember to always check what the return policy is on all purchases. Some brushes seem great and a month later they evolve into a shedding monster. Expect to lose a few hairs with any brush, however if the amount of hair loss increases instead of decreases, exchange or return it. |
