There is a reason we call someone who works with makeup a makeup artist. Imagine Da Vinci trying to achieve a Mona Lisa without brushes. Impossible. Likewise, no makeup artist can begin to achieve great results without great brushes. The same rule applies to anyone applying their own makeup.

I am providing you with a list of brushes found in every makeup artist,s kit. I will dedicate a "recipe" to each brush type to make perfectly clear the type of brushes you need, how to get the best result from your brushes, and how to make them last forever(almost).

There is a wide range of choices and quality from which to choose. The ultimate test is how brushes feel on your skin and how they help you apply your makeup. Sometimes you will find all the brushes you need and like in one set. Count your blessings. Most people I know who start off with a good brush set will eventually add to their collection as they come across unique and beneficial brushes.

Brush Off, a spray cleaner for brushes is the easiest(and most effective) way to clean your brushes between uses. Just spray a tissue with the Brush Off and wipe the brush hairs back and forth into the tissue until the brush is clean. Please note that the instructions on the Brush Off bottle say to spray the brush directly. I find this saturates the brush with too much cleaner and may leave the hairs feeling slightly greasy. Gross!

At the end of each week, fill your sink with lukewarm water and a gentle shampoo. Swish your brushes in the water until they are clean. Then shake out the excess water, reshape the brush hairs and let them dry overnight on a countertop with the brush hairs over the edge of the counter top for better drying. The next morning they are ready to go. If, for any reason the brushes are not dry by morning or you need them sooner, use your blow dryer on a low setting to complete the job.
