Holiday Glamour
Sparkling, shining, and standing out in a crowd this season
It's the season for enjoying the abundant excesses of the year -- and from Thanksgiving to holiday parties to New Year's, you'll find plenty of opportunity to stand out in a crowd.
It's all about glowing and shining bright, and to help you achieve that special radiance, here is my Holiday 2005 recipe for style, featuring three key elements:
- Red (lips)
- Gold (eye shadow)
- Liquid (eye liner)
Recipe for Style: Holiday 2005
Ingredients
- Medium- to full-coverage satin finish foundation
- Light reflective powder
- Eyebrow powder
- Smoke and gold eye shadow
- Black liquid and black waterproof pencil eyeliner
- Lash-building mascara
- Concealer with good coverage
- Bright fiery red lipstick, with matching lip-liner pencil
- Contour cheek color
- Pearly face cream highlighter
Tools
- Foundation brush
- Powder brush
- Eyebrow brush
- Standard eye-shadow brush
- Contour eye-shadow brush
- Concealer brush
- Lip brush
- Blush brush
Preparation
Skin
- Start with a clean, freshly moisturized face.
- Apply foundation with brush from center of the face outward until you achieve at least medium coverage. It is important to neutralize any discoloration in the center of the face.
- Lightly dust skin with reflective powder
Eyes
- Heighten brow with powder; slightly overextend the outer tail of the eyebrow.
- Cover entire ball of eye with the gold shadow, up to the depth of the crease.
- Apply liquid liner along entire upper eye line from the inner corner to the outer edge, following lash bed. Extremely thicken liner from the pupil out to the corner of eye upwards in a strong 45-degree angle.
- Apply waterproof eyeliner pencil to inner eye line above bottom lashes from the inner corner to the outer edge. Connect top and bottom eye line in outer corner of eye.
- Apply a pearly highlight under the tail of the top liquid liner in the outer corner of the eye.
- Apply smoke shadow along lower lash line to create a smudgy, smoky under-eye effect.
- Lavish on mascara. Add extra to the outer lashes for more drama.
- Clean up under eye with concealer, using a concealer brush.
Lips
- Line lips fully and apply lipstick liberally. Blot and reapply lipstick.
Cheeks
- Brush blush on the underside of the cheekbone from the ear towards your nose, enhancing or creating the natural shadow along the underside of the cheekbone.
Finish
- Warm pearly highlighters with fingers and apply along upper shelf of cheekbone, above eyebrows, down center of nose, across chin, and a little on the cheeks just to the side of the nose.
The only part of this look that requires special attention is the liquid liner. Take your time applying, allowing it to dry between applications, to get the best result.
The time to wear this look is now, so break it out at your next gathering and get ready for the ooohs and aaahs.
Wishing you and yours the very best, now and throughout the New Year.
