Summer 2005, Vol. 3, Issue 2

Pass The Sunblock Please

For all of you lovers of bright intensities of color, your season has arrived. Sweet oranges, lush plums, tart limes and luscious fuchsias all explode into the height of the summer season.

How does this translate into your summer look? The same way you would make a summer fruit salad, choosing contrasting colors of melons, cherries, strawberries, kiwis and peaches, your summer face takes advantage of the offerings of the season. If you are so inclined, it is wonderful to add a layer of golden sun all over your skin to backlight these arresting colors.

The only requirement to pull off this mélange of intensities is to find semi-translucent versions of all these colors. Doing so, your moist skin appears to flush these colors naturally and beautifully.

Below is a wonderful summer fruit salad recipe for your makeup full of tips to achieve this heightened yet not overdone look of summer. Enjoy!

Summer Fruit Salad D'u Visage

INGREDIENTS
  • Ultra-sheer coverage foundation mixed with an iridescent bronzy primer
  • Sheer fuchsia lipstick. (Mix equal parts gloss and lipstick to create your own sheer formulation)
  • Clear or tinted brow gel
  • Liquid iridescent eyeshadow in pink
  • Vibrant and translucent eyeshadow in lime, orange or plum.
  • Bright blue waterproof eyeliner and mascara
  • Peach blush in a liquid tint formula
  • Coral tinted bronzing powder
  • Bright orange or pink/fuchsia nail color for toes
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
  • Foundation brush (synthetic)
  • Lip brush
  • Eyeshadow brush
  • Concealer brush (synthetic)
  • Lash comb (metal preferred)
  • Blush brush
PREPARATION

The Skin:
  • Start with a clean, freshly moisturized face.
  • Mix primer with foundation and brush from the center of the face out. This is the season of freckles so don't try to cover them. The look is glowing and transparent. (Add foundation only if and where coverage is needed)
The Lips:
  • Lines lips softly and apply sheer lipstick mixed with gloss. Lips need to appear full of color and see-through simultaneously.
The Eyes:
  • Brush brows up and out with gel. Keep them soft and wispy.
  • Softly sweep the pink liquid eyeshadow over whole eye to create an illuminated base.
  • Choose one of the three colors suggested and sweep lavishly over the ball of the eye.
  • Fill in eyelash base with blue pencil on top and bottom lashes
  • Apply mascara in long clean strokes. Avoid clumping by using an eyelash comb.
  • Clean up under eye with concealer using a concealer brush.
Cheeks:
  • Apply cheek tint with fingers or foundation brush on the apple of your cheek blending half way back on cheekbone and also slightly down and back from the apple of cheek. Though translucent, cheeks need to read as slightly sunburnt.
Finish:
  • Brush a coral tinted bronzing powder with a blush brush on high ridge of cheekbones, down the center of nose, across chin and above eyebrows to create that "just-got-sun" look.
  • Mix a refreshing and colorful summer libation and paint toes in the sun.
Your face will look and feel refreshingly alive and flirty. This is one fruit salad that will definitely get eaten up.

I wish you a glorious summer full of friends and good times. Here's to looking and feeling our best.

Kind regards,
Chris Scott
