I googled "Spring Makeup Trends 2008" and to my surprise the #1 search was this URL:

http://www.imageandstylenews.com/2008-spring-makeup-trends

If you scroll down to the video on this page that best exemplifies Spring Makeup, It is the Makeup Gourmet Spring Makeup show I shot last year. That goes to show you that there are classic looks for each season that never go out of style as well as the accompanying trends. Speaking of trends, here are my highlight trends for this season.

SPRING MAKEUP TRENDS 2008
As color is boldly showing up in fashion (a trend I personally adore) it is best to know how to accessorize your makeup to this trend.

Let your colorful wardrobe win. Chose colors for your makeup that are about 1/2 to 2/3rds the intensity of your wardrobe. To match or top your wardrobe with your makeup is a gross overstatement. Shine in other ways. Speaking of shine, it is time to let the skin glow.

Skin:
Sheer tinted moisturizers or lightweight luminous oil-free foundations are the look for skin. Mix in a shimmery rosy or bronzy primer to make skin pop.
Contrast trend: matte foundation
Example product:

  • Tarte- Smooth Operator SPF 20
  • Vincent Longo- Light Canvas Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
  • Smashbox- Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer
  • Benefit- High Beam

Eyes:
Color is everywhere. Use washes of light reflective shadows such as lilac, sky blue and rose. For contrast, we are seeing dark blue as a Spring color statement. This is a great trend. You can subtly enhance liner or smoke out your lid with this powerful color that works on every eye once you commit to the intensity.
Brows are fluffed with color with a light touch for a young, untouched look.
Contrast trend: none
Example product:

  • Hard Candy- Eye Shadow Quartet - Delusional
  • Chanel-Bleu Celestes
  • Shu Uemura- single shadows

Lips: I never met a gloss I didn't like. This season is no exception. Find clear translucent colors with no brown. We must see both your lip and the color of the gloss simultaneously.
Contrast Trend: Red
Example product:

  • Lancome- Juicy Tubes
  • Guerlain- Pop Gloss crystal

Cheeks: Sheer, see-through glowing cheeks. We want the apres-ski look with color bursting from the apples of the cheek. This is the one season where cheek color may be your dominant feature. Contrast trend: neutral contour
Example product:

  • Bobbi Brown- Pot rouge for lips and cheeks
  • Benefit- Benetint

For those of you in the event planning business, I will be posting some new Event Activities to put in your catalog for your clients. Look for updates soon at makeupgourmet.com
